Taos Pride

Hey Everyone,

Just little old me checking in to tell you about what happened yesterday. Yesterday was Taos Pride, so fabulous was abound. Pride events are special in that they exist to celebrate the diversity of all cultures that make up our planet.

Anyways, I went to help out with the PFLAG-Taos booth. For those of you who don't know, PFLAG stands for Parents, Family, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. It's our job to educate and advocate on behalf of the LGBT community. Our organization started 40 years ago, when a mother (Jeanne Manford) marched alone in New York City Pride on behalf of her son. She held a sign saying: "Parents, unite in the support of our children!"

Prides are always friendly events for PFLAG, so it's much easier to have fun and relax. At our booth, we had the "Wheel of Knowledge," where we let people spin and answer a question. If they get it right, they got a Starburst candy; although, we were good sports and gave them candy even when they guessed incorrectly.

We also had an activity where people wrote down their heroes (mine are my parents), and hung them up on a clothes line. This was done to celebrate the wonderful people that compose our community and nation. After we finished, I read over the cards and someone wrote Jeanne Manford, which brought a tear to my eye. And solely for bragging rights, my name was written on four cards. :P

Finally, we had information on how people could volunteer, donate money, or start their own advocacy/ education for our community.

I helped run the booth between noon and 3pm. Then I hung around in the park for an hour or so, and went home after that because I was exhausted.

Have some Taos Pride photos:
